Water Guard

Wordle: UntitledWater Guard will be out in full force on July 4th. Water Guards are telling boaters and fishermen about a new species. The reason is boaters and other fishermen aren’t cleaning off their boats or trailers. It’s a new law in Wisconsin: they must follow it.

With this new law, boats must be clean before launch and after. If anyone is spotted with plants or animals on their boats they’ll be charged only if they leave the land.

More than 160 fish farmers that farm waters such as lakes, rivers, and ponds in 51 Wisconsin counties have applied to renew their licenses so they can operate in those waters under the state law of 1997 governing aquaculture.

Bob Wakeman, DNR aquatic invasive species expert, says the new law can help us understand when they’ll enforce and what we’ll need to do. More boaters and fishermen have been asked to inspect for anything that could hang on the boats. The inspection was inforced since 2001.

If you love fishing please clean your boats. By doing this we can help future gernerations still be able to fish.
